Over 12,000 police dispatched on election day
(BangkokPost.com) - More than 12,000 police officers were dispatched to different areas across the capital to prevent ill-intentioned people from creating disorder on the Bangkok governor election day on Sunday.The Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol Gen Vichien Potphosri, said 12,641 police officials were assigned to oversee security and maintain order througout the day.9,838 units were from the Metropolitan Police Bureau while 2,803 others were under the Central Investigation Bureau, the Border Patrol Police, the Narcotics Suppression Police, and the Thai Customs Police, he said.Two police officers were sent to each of the 6,337 polling stations in Bangkok, and about 10 to 20 mobile units were assigned to observe and look for vote-buying activities near different polling stations, the deputy police chief said, adding that approximately 300 investigators were ordered to handle poll fraud complaints.
