Chuan: Samak s decision has no impact on politics
(BangkokPost.com) - Samak Sundaravej s decision to step aside after embarrassing no-vote on Friday would not bring any changes to political arena, Democrat chief adviser Chuan Leekpai said Saturday.Mr Chuan said the decision of Mr Samak is internal matter of the government, and that it would not have any impact on the politics because he still serves as a member of the parliament. He refused to comment on reports that People Power party (PPP) will back one of the three candidates with the initial S as a prime minister, saying that the government has the right to come up with any decision. They are said to be caretaker prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, caretaker deputy prime minister Surapong Suebwonglee and caretaker justice minister Sompong Amornwiwat. The impact will be that the country can finally start to heal after being run by arrogant and corrupt leaders who under the veil of the popular vote have an absolute belief that they can get away with anything. Good riddance! If you want to make sure that everybody is equally represented, go for a unity government, that will be true democracy, and not that the majoraty of the votes (one region) dictate what the minority (another region) should do. It would also solved the problems the other way around by means of the protests. There is no time for taking sides. Understanding that there are inequalities is the key and finding an agreement by which ALL citizens of the country are properly represented and corruption will be gradually rooted out.
